Answer

There has been an ongoing debate regarding the allocation of government funds between railways and roads. While some argue that more resources should be directed towards developing roads, I strongly agree with the notion that government should prioritize railways over road transportation due to the numerous advantages it offers in terms of environmental sustainability and efficiency.

Firstly, one of the major reasons why funds should be invested in railways is that it offers environmental benefits. Railways are known for their lower carbon emissions while transporting a larger number of passengers or goods in a single journey, which further reduces overall energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions per capita. A high-speed train, for instance, can transport hundreds of passengers with much lower emissions per person than an equivalent number of cars, decreasing air pollution and contributing to mitigate climate change. Additionally, railways predominantly rely on electricity, a cleaner source of energy when compared to gasoline or diesel.

Similarly, investment in rail transportation promotes robust economic development by effectively connecting various regions within a country which stimulates tourism, boost trade, and increase job opportunities. In addition to this, rail transport is faster and more reliable than roads, ultimately resulting in improved efficiency and productivity. For example, in many developed nations, metro rails have revolutionized transportation, making it possible to commute and travel quickly and comfortably between cities.

In conclusion, I firmly concur that it is a far better choice to invest national funds in the development of trains as opposed to highways since it fosters environmental benefits, provides more comfort to travelers, as well as contributes toward the nation’s economy.
