The purpose of learning an international language is a subject of ongoing debate, with few supporting that it is solely for travel and work purposes; whereas, others contend that there are multiple additional reasons. There are compelling arguments for both these views, yet I firmly believe that individuals should acknowledge the inherent value of learning a language without attaching a specific purpose to it.
On one hand, mastering the local language can enhance the travel experience, allowing deeper cultural immersion and facilitating communication with locals. Being able to speak Spanish while traveling in Latin America, for instance, can lead to more meaningful interactions with the local community. Moreover, being bilingual enhances one’s employability in foreign companies, enabling effective communication with clients in their native language
On the other hand, there are those who recognize the benefits of foreign language beyond merely travel and work. It promotes cultural understanding and empathy by exposing individuals to different perspectives, beliefs, and values. For example, a person learning Spanish can enjoy the work of Rosa Montero – a Spanish author – and converse with native Spanish speakers. Furthermore, learning a second language can improve memory, problem-solving skills, and multitasking abilities
In my opinion, language acquisition can be a fruitful tool for intellectual stimulation, cultural enrichment, and interpersonal growth, making it a worthwhile pursuit regardless of travel or career aspirations.
In conclusion, despite conquering a foreign language can develop travel experience and job opportunities, I strongly concur that the additional benefits of learning it are far-reaching.
