Some people think that a sense of competition in children should be encouraged. Others believe that children who are taught to cooperate rather than compete become more useful adults. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

Write at least 250 words.

Answer

Although some contend that instilling a competitive spirit in children is beneficial, others advocate prioritizing the cultivation of cooperation. Both viewpoints hold valid arguments, yet I agree that cooperation fosters vital skills for future success and societal cohesion.

On one hand, proponents of competitiveness posit that it encourages individuals to strive for excellence and push their limits. To brief, when children engage in healthy rivalry, they develop a sense of strong work ethic and a drive to succeed, leading to the development of valuable skills like resilience, perseverance, and self-discipline. In academic contesting, for instance, students dedicate extra time to study, resulting in a deeper understanding of the subject matter.

On the other hand, opponents contend that working together fosters empathy and understanding. Elaborating on this, as children learn to cooperate towards shared objectives, they develop empathy, respect, and attentiveness toward others. This aptitude for effective collaboration improves their communication, teamwork, and conflict-resolution capabilities. For example, in group projects or team sports, children learn the importance of cooperation, compromise, and supporting one another.

In my opinion, by working collaboratively, children nurture long-lasting skills that are crucial for a fulfilling and productive life. Children can learn from one another, pool their strengths, and achieve outcomes that surpass what could be accomplished individually, thereby furthering preparing themselves for the realities of a world that increasingly values collaboration and collective problem-solving.

In conclusion, despite the cultivation of work ethics and motivation through competitiveness, I staunchly concur that collaborative endeavors can reinforce vital skills in children as well as expose them to a realistic understanding of the world.
