Although few people believe that guardians play a significant role in instilling good societal values in children, others argue that schools contribute heavily to that matter. Both perspectives present persuasive points, yet I maintain that educational institutions possess a greater capacity to shape the values of children.
On one hand, supporters of the former view posit that parents serve as primary role models. To brief, parents can provide personalized guidance and tailor the teachings to their child’s specific needs and circumstances. For instance, they can foster empathy in children by prompting them to empathize with others’ viewpoints or by involving the entire family in charitable endeavors.
On the other hand, proponents contend that schools are the ideal places to learn how to be good members of society. These institutes have dedicated programs and curricula that explicitly teach moral values and social responsibilities. Through subjects like citizenship education, for example, students gain knowledge about democracy, human rights, and ethical decision-making.
In my opinion, schools are better suited for teaching children invaluable social traits since they provide a comprehensive education that extends beyond academics. They create a controlled setting where children can learn and practice social skills, cooperation, and civic responsibilities while exposing them to a wide range of experiences and perspectives, fostering inclusivity and broadening their horizons.
In conclusion, despite the personal assistance provided by parents which can help children to become a civic members of society, I firmly concur that schools are the best places to teach them societal values as they do not only teach them through theoretical subjects – also create a learning, conducive environment for practicing whatever is taught.
