The position of women in society has changed markedly in the last twenty years. Many of the problems young people now experience such as juvenile delinquency, arise from the fact that many married women now work and are not at home to care for their children. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?

Write at least 250 words.

Answer

Over two decades, a noteworthy paradigm shift in women’s societal roles – especially the married ones embracing employment opportunities beyond the confines of the home – contributes to challenges confronted by young individuals like juvenile delinquency. I completely disagree with the notion since numerous factors contribute to the societal problems experienced by young people, and narrowing them solely to women’s employment oversimplifies their intricate nature.

Firstly, the changing dynamics in family structure and the shift from traditional gender roles may require adjustments and adaptation. To brief, when both parents are working, there may be a need for alternative childcare management or increased reliance on external support systems, posing challenges for families in managing work-life balance and ensuring adequate care for children. Additionally, the availability of parents, regardless of gender, to spend quality time with their children can influence child development. The decrease in parents’ time at home caused by work commitments can curtail direct parental involvement in their children’s lives, affecting the support and guidance they receive, and ultimately contributing to behavioral challenges.

Furthermore, considering socioeconomic factors is crucial, as families facing financial hardships or living in disadvantaged communities may experience higher rates of delinquency irrespective of parental employment. Elaborating on this, poverty, lack of access to quality education, and community influences can have a significant impact on a child’s behavior. Moreover, working mothers can still proffer emotional support, guidance, and effective parenting even if they spend less time at home. Children’s behavior is shaped by positive role models, family communication, and consistent discipline, which are more significant than mothers’ employment status alone.

In conclusion, I firmly concur that the child’s development is affected by various aspects, including socioeconomic conditions, overall family environment, and the quality of parenting with the mother’s employment status seldom being the primary cause of the stated problem.
